At the street level, you have the red light district, ping pong shows, sex toys for sale, and street food on every corner. But, take an elevator 30 floors up, and you’re at the height of class and luxury. Two worlds collide in Bangkok. There's such a juxtaposition of wealth and culture, but both sides are equally definitive of life in Thailand. I've already written a love letter to street food, so now here's an ode to my favorite rooftop bars:
- Octave Rooftop at the Marriott Bangkok: Gorgeous 360 views of the city and happy hour cocktail prices (half off!) that can't be beat. The drinks were absolutely delicious and this is a perfect place to start your night before going out in the Sukhumvit area.
- Vertigo and Moon Bar at Banyan Tree: Located in the red light district, this expansive rooftop bar was absolutely packed with people on a warm Bangkok night. They also have a full restaurant perfect for dining under the stars.
- Sky Bar at Lebua: Yes, it’s a tourist trap (it’s featured in the Hangover 2) and the drinks are seriously overpriced for Bangkok standards, but my god it’s the most beautiful bar I’ve ever been to. The best time to go? Sunset, obviously! Not only for the happy hour specials, but to watch the sky change colors against the sweeping skyline of Bangkok. This was my favorite view in the city and a night I'll never forget.
