#CarnivorrGoesForGold: Week Thirteen

81. Lucques (#15 on the #JGOLD101)

Went to Chef Suzanne Goin’s Lucques for a fireside meal in a cozy cabin in WeHo.

What I ate: cauliflower soup with westcombe cheddar, multigrain crouton; Nantucket Bay scallops with sunchokes, brussel sprouts, sunflower seeds; grilled king trumpet mushrooms with gremolata; braised beef short ribs, potato puree, cippollini onions, horseradish cream; meringue ice cream sandwich.

82. Bellwether (#86 on the #JGOLD101)

I loved having brunch at The Bellwether in Studio City!

What I ate: vanilla kouign amman; avocado toast on brioche + egg; dutch baby - strawberries, powdered sugar; tempura cauliflower with thai chili, thai basil, mint, lime, nam pla dipping sauce.

83. Sea Harbour (#51 on the #JGOLD101)

If you’re looking for Hong Kong-style Chinese food, head to Sea Harbour in the San Gabriel Valley for some incredibly elegant dim sum.

What I ate: steamed rice noodle with bbq pork; juicy pork bun; pork & shrimp dump with truffle sauce; steamed salty egg yolk bun with gold foil.

84. Meals By Genet (#60 on the #JGOLD101)

I went to Meals By Genet on Fairfax for my first ever Ethiopian meal, and OMG!!! Chef Genet spends three days laboring over her sauce which gives her iconic chicken doro wat its incredible signature flavor.

What I ate: doro wat chicken dish served on injera - the Ethiopian crepe bread; vegetable sampler.

85. Craft (#68 on the #JGOLD101)

I’d been to Chef Tom Colicchio’s Craft in NYC but not in LA before - this time I checked out the Century City location and basically had a holiday feast! Added bonus: James Beard award-winning pastry chef Shannon Swindle sent out all their desserts!! My heaven.

What I ate: avocado salad; hen of the woods mushrooms; duck salad; roasted honey nut squash; yukon gold potato puree; braised beef short rib; red walnut pie - cranberry, cinnamon ice creams; chocolate peanut butter tart - caramelized banana, mexican vanilla ice cream; quince brown betty (like a quince crumble) brown butter ice cream, quince sorbet; and chocolate chip cookies for the road.

86. Sotto (#55 on the #JGOLD101)

Sotto is a fantastic Italian spot on Pico in Beverly Hills, with great cocktails (one like butter beer!), and, of course, pizza and pasta.

What I ate: charred multicolor cauliflower, pickled peppers, house-made pancetta, fennel pollen; crispy octopus - salame piccante, fingerlings, garlic broth, fior de latte; Fiorata pizza - salame piccante, provolone, buckwheat honey; squid ink campanelle - shrimp and seppia ragu, fresno chili, basil, bread crumbs; buttermilk zeppole with ice cream.

87. Q Sushi (#13 on the #JGOLD101)

Hiroyuki Naruke from Tokyo served me the BEST SUSHI OF MY LIFE at his DTLA spot, Q Sushi. If you’re looking for a bargain, opt for the lunch omakase - 8 pieces for about $100.

What I ate: blue fin tuna with sweet miso vinaigrette; kanpachi with onion; snapper; Japanese strapjack; wild yellowtail from Japan; toro; wild king salmon; fluke (side fin); salmon roe / Santa Barbara uni; dessert: Japanese egg custard.
